iXAfrica Data Centre has landed a powerful boost for its Nairobi campus, securing a multi-tranche financing package from Rand Merchant Bank (RMB) to add 20 MW of IT power.

This game-changing expansion nearly multiplies the existing capacity of 2.25 MW, turbocharging the data centre’s capability to serve tech demands across East Africa.

The deal is pivotal as iXAfrica gears up for rapid growth fueled by rising cloud adoption and artificial intelligence workloads.

RMB financing powers major capacity expansion

RMB’s tailored financing underlines the bank’s commitment to Africa’s evolving digital economy, supporting iXAfrica’s goal to host more hyperscale and AI customers.

Guy Willner, iXAfrica’s Chairman, confidently stated, “Closing this financing with RMB secures our next growth phase and positions us to welcome more hyperscale and AI customers.

We remain committed to expanding our East African footprint and deepening our investment in Kenya.”

RMB’s Corrie Cronje added, “This transaction reflects RMB’s commitment to supporting scalable, high-impact digital infrastructure across Africa.”

The new financing will drive the construction of an additional 20MW facility at iXAfrica’s Nairobi campus, signalling a significant leap forward in capacity and capability.

Nairobi campus expansion meets surging digital demand

Demand for scalable digital infrastructure is soaring in East Africa, propelled by hyperscale operators, cloud services, and AI workloads.

iXAfrica’s expanded campus is well-positioned to meet these surging needs, reinforcing Nairobi’s status as a regional digital hub. The upgraded facility aims to attract top-tier tech players seeking robust, AI-ready data centre environments.

This development is critical in supporting the digital transformation sweeping across Kenya and the wider region, enabling enterprises to scale efficiently while handling complex workloads.

With the RMB financing secured, iXAfrica is expanding capacity and accelerating digital progress in East Africa, laying a solid foundation for next-generation technology adoption and growth.

The 20 MW upgrade cements iXAfrica as a vital player empowering cloud, AI, and hyperscale infrastructure in Kenya and beyond.
