On Monday, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) released the statistical analysis of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results.
The data revealed that out of 1,955,069 candidates who sat for the exam, over 1.5 million candidates scored below 200 out of the 400 obtainable points.
Majority of candidates score below 200 in 2025 UTME
According to the statistics, about 75 to 78 percent of candidates scored less than 200 marks in the exam. Only 420,415 candidates, representing roughly 22 per cent, scored above 200.
Furthermore, less than 1 per cent of the candidates scored above 300, with only 12,414 candidates achieving this high score bracket.
JAMB also disclosed that 71,701 candidates were absent from the examination, and 97 were involved in examination infractions.
Additionally, 2,157 candidates are currently under investigation for suspected malpractice. Candidates facing biometric verification challenges are also being investigated, and those cleared will be rescheduled for the exam at designated centres.
Performance of underage candidates and ongoing Investigations
The board permitted 40,247 underage candidates to participate in the exam as exceptional candidates.
However, only 467 of these underage candidates (1.16%) met the threshold for exceptional ability defined by JAMB. Their performance in subsequent stages of assessment is still pending.
JAMB also mentioned that the results of some candidates, including blind candidates and those in the Joint Examination Officers Group (JEOG), are still being processed.
The board plans to hold a press conference later in the week to announce individual results and facilitate candidate result checking.
Candidates can check their results via the JAMB eFacility portal by logging in with their registration details or by sending an SMS with their registration number to official JAMB numbers for a small fee.
This year’s UTME was conducted between April 24 and May 5, 2025, as an annual entrance examination for Nigerian universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.
