I&M Bank Mtwapa Branch officially opened on Saturday, representing yet another significant turning point in the company’s growth.

Its footprint in the coastal region is strengthened with this new branch, which also reaffirms its dedication to providing MSMEs, companies, and individuals with cutting-edge financial solutions.

Speaking during the official opening of the Mtwapa Branch along the Malindi-Mombasa Highway, on Saturday 1st March, Gul Khan, CEO of I&M Bank, stated, “Mtwapa is an economic powerhouse with a thriving business community and we are excited to be part of its growth story. I&M to deliver seamless banking services in Mtwapa

As Mtwapa continues to grow, fuelled by tourism, trade and a vibrant commercial sector, its new branch is perfectly positioned to serve businesses, create investment opportunities and deliver seamless banking services.

A comprehensive range of retail and MSME banking services, such as trade services, investment solutions, business financing, and digital banking platforms that improve client convenience, are anticipated to be provided by the new Mtwapa branch.

Abud Said, the chairperson of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KNCCI), Mombasa Chapter, and the chief guest at the branch opening event, emphasised the importance of I&M Bank’s growth in Mtwapa by saying, “I&M Bank has demonstrated true commitment to the growth of small businesses in the Coast region. We are proud to witness its Management translating their promises into tangible action. This continued support is strengthening trust and driving sustainable economic progress in our community.”

I&M Bank’s expansion drive

The launch of the Mtwapa Branch in Kilifi County, the ninth branch in the Coastal region and a major turning point in I&M Bank’s development, marked the start of this year’s expansion drive.

In order to fill important gaps in financial access and customised banking solutions, I&M Bank is also bolstering its presence in the Central, Nairobi, and Western areas as part of this development effort.

Officially opened on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, other new branches in Nairobi’s Kawangware and ABC Mall on Waiyaki Way will improve access to banking services in busy metropolitan locations, promoting trade and fostering business expansion.

In order to satisfy the changing demands of communities and businesses, Central will open new branches in Kenol, Meru Makutano, and Embu to service the quickly expanding commercial areas.

As part of the lender’s bigger sustainable financing goal, upcoming branches in Kericho, Bungoma, and Kakamega will service the greater Western region and concentrate on cross-border trade and assisting agribusinesses.

New branches constructed with shipping containers to minimise environmental impact

In contrast to conventional brick and mortar buildings, four of the new branches were built using reused end-of-life shipping containers, guaranteeing a lower environmental effect.

“By adopting modular container branches, we are reducing our carbon footprint while maintaining the highest standards of banking infrastructure,” said Stanley Gachoki, Head of Distribution & Premium Banking. “This initiative is in line with our sustainability action plan, which prioritises building a sustainable business and embedding responsible environmental practices in our operations.”

I&M Bank hopes to provide financial inclusion, economic growth, and customised financial solutions to sustainably serve the varied demands of Kenya’s vibrant populace through this strategic expansion.
