iColo, Digital Realty Company, the top supplier of carrier-neutral data centre solutions in Kenya, announced on Wednesday that Kenya Internet Exchange Point (KIXP) has joined its Mombasa Two (MBA2) data centre.
This entry has grown the local and regional peering environments.
The exchange point run by Technology Service Providers of Kenya (TESPOK) will bring interconnection points closer to users along the coast, strengthening the nation’s internet ecosystem.
Thanks to this recent development, internet traffic within the region will be able to be routed more quickly and effectively, which will also lower latency and increase redundancy.
iColo’s connected data centres in Mombasa’s coastal city
As the most interconnected hub and a key entry point to East Africa, iColo currently runs two highly connected data centres in the coastal city of Mombasa. The city is served by seven subsea cable systems, including 2Africa.
“We are elated to see KIXP’s consistent growth in our campuses over the years, and having them deploy at MBA2 is yet another milestone we celebrate,” said Rina Sodha, Director – Customer Implementation at iColo.
“Over 100 networks are already connected at our Mombasa Campus, and we anticipate that the exchange’s new Point of Presence will foster an immense shift in the internet experience, not only in Kenya but also in the East African region,” Rina added.
“Our presence at iColo MBA2 reflects our commitment to ensuring that KIXP remains accessible to networks across Kenya and beyond,” said Fiona Asonga, Chief Executive Officer, TESPOK.
“This expansion enhances Mombasa’s role as a key landing point for multiple subsea cables and positions it as a vital hub for regional and international internet traffic exchange,” concluded Asonga.
