The Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA) , a technology hub in Kenya, has officially appointed John Okwiri to the position of CEO, after he has served in the role of CEO in an acting capacity for the past ten months.
After his confirmation, he would take over for Engineer John Tanui, who had been serving as the Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Information Communication and the Digital Economy since the position was created in 2017. After being appointed, Okwiri will be tasked with the responsibility of providing Konza Technopolis with the strategic leadership it needs to realize its objective of being a major global Technopolis and innovation hub.
Throughout the course of his career, Okwiri has been an essential figure in the successful implementation of large-scale projects at Konza Technopolis. These projects include the successful delivery of Konza Phase 1 Horizontal Infrastructure and the development of the Kenya Advance Institute of Science and Technology.

“John Paul Okwiri is a dynamic and visionary executive passionate about driving transformative change. With a proven track record in delivering large scale strategic infrastructure and innovation projects leveraging diverse resourcing models,” The board of KoTDA said in a statement.
In addition to this, he was instrumental in the mobilisation of resources for the construction of a tier 3 National Data Centre, the transformation of Kenya’s cloud infrastructure and Data Centre services, as well as the securing of the 41st International Association of Science Parks (IAPS) 2024 Conference for Konza Technopolis.
Okwiri received both a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration in Procurement and Supply Chain Management from the University of Nairobi.
Both the Kenya Institute of Supplies & Management (MKISM) and the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (MCIPS-UK) recognise him as a Professional Member of their respective organisations. In addition to that, John is a certified expert before the FIDIC Dispute Adjudication Board (DAB).
Before being officially appointed to the position, Okwiri served as the acting Chief Executive Officer of the Authority for the previous ten months.
