SWEEPAY has introduced a bold new approach to waste management that turns everyday recyclables into income.

Developed by the Statewide Waste and Environmental Education Foundation (SWEEP Foundation) in collaboration with Optimus AI Labs, the platform digitises Lagos’ recycling ecosystem, making it easier, smarter, and more rewarding to manage waste.

The SWEEPAY app connects individuals and businesses with a network of verified agents and recyclers, allowing users to schedule pickups, receive payments, and track their environmental impact from a simple dashboard.

SWEEPAY offers cash for recyclables through smart waste collection

Built to serve households and businesses alike, SWEEPAY connects users to a verified network of waste collectors and recyclers via an intuitive app dashboard. From scheduling pickups to receiving cash payments, the platform turns plastic bottles, paper, and cans into traceable income.

Whether you’re a homeowner with regular waste or a large-scale generator like a school or hospital, SWEEPAY lets you monitor your environmental impact in real time while earning from what would otherwise be discarded. With features like automated scheduling and an integrated wallet, the process is seamless and transparent from start to finish.

Ambassador Obuesi Phillips, President of SWEEP Foundation, described SWEEPAY as “a game-changer in waste management,” noting that it empowers citizens, drives sustainability, and opens up income-generating opportunities across Lagos.

Businesses, communities, and the environment all stand to gain

Prior to SWEEPAY’s rollout, recycling in Lagos operated largely through informal networks, making data tracking and accountability difficult. Now, supermarkets, fast food chains, hospitals, and schools can adopt structured waste recovery systems that align with corporate social responsibility goals and regulatory standards.

The platform’s enterprise features include financial reporting tools, waste volume analytics, and support for ESG compliance—all managed through a central dashboard. With every transaction recorded, SWEEPAY helps businesses stay accountable while supporting job creation in the informal sector.

Additionally, the Community Portal allows local residents to sign up as collection agents or recycling educators, driving grassroots engagement and education in sustainability practices.

SWEEPAY’s tech-driven system brings structure to Lagos recycling

SWEEPAY is currently in its first phase, onboarding community-based agents and organisations across Lagos. The app’s key features include automated scheduling, which enables users to book pickups, receive alerts, and track collection routes seamlessly.

Real-time reporting allows individuals and institutions to monitor how much waste they recycle and their corresponding earnings. An integrated wallet ensures users are paid directly for their contributions, while a dedicated community portal enables engagement with local partners, access to recycling tips, and opportunities to join the collection network.

This tech-driven approach is not only cleaning up Lagos but also laying the groundwork for a circular economy. As the platform expands to other cities like Abuja, SWEEPAY promises to be more than an app—it’s a movement towards environmental responsibility, digital innovation, and economic inclusion.

To make your waste work for you, sign up with SWEEPAY and start recycling smarter.
