The London Internet Exchange (LINX), a top Internet Exchange Point (IXP) operator improving digital infrastructure throughout the UK, Africa, and the U.S., has entered into a new community partnership with the Internet Society (ISOC) Ghana Chapter, which serves as a major turning point in the growth of Ghana’s digital infrastructure.

The partnership, announced on Tuesday, coincides with the establishment of LINX Accra, a new interconnection hub designed to improve internet performance, connectivity, and resilience throughout West Africa.

The partnership will support Ghana’s already thriving online community through collaborative projects, such as technical training courses, community engagement events, and knowledge-sharing exercises. These initiatives are intended to enable regional stakeholders to unite and promote the internet ecosystem in the area.

LINX Accra to improve Ghana’s overall network quality

The internationally renowned leader in internet exchange services, LINX, conveyed its gratitude for the local assistance obtained in the founding of LINX Accra. To improve latency, lower costs, and improve the region’s overall internet quality, the new hub is anticipated to offer a crucial platform for local and international networks to connect.

“We are excited to work alongside the Internet Society Ghana Chapter to support capacity building in Ghana. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to building a more robust and accessible internet for all,” Nurani Nimpuno, Head of Global Engagement for LINX, stated.

LINX’s goal is to grow where they can contribute to the local connectivity landscape. Given West Africa’s anticipated digital growth, they are eager to establish Ghana as the next significant global hub for interconnection. By fostering a vibrant atmosphere for internet development, LINX and ISOC Ghana hope to keep Ghana at the forefront of digital innovation in Africa.

The Internet Society Ghana Chapter (ISOC Ghana)

The Internet Society Ghana Chapter (ISOC Ghana) is a chartered chapter of the Internet Society, a non-profit organisation established in 1992 with the goal of leading the way in Internet-related standards, policy, and education.

In order to benefit people in Ghana and around the world, ISOC Ghana is committed to ensuring the open development, evolution, and use of the internet. Since its establishment in 1996, ISOC Ghana has supported several programs aimed at increasing the technical community’s and education sector’s capacity.

Maud Adjeley Ashont Elliot, President of the ISOC Ghana Chapter, commented, “This partnership with LINX is a timely and welcome development as it brings renewed energy to our mission and opens up new avenues for collaboration, learning and impact. We welcome the arrival of LINX into Ghana and look forward to a long-term partnership for the good of the local internet.”

The Internet Society (ISOC) Ghana Chapter hosts the Ghana Network Operators’ Group (GhNOG) Workshop, a premier technical training program designed to increase the proficiency of Ghana’s Internet technical community. The workshop, which caters to both ISOC members and the broader Internet ecosystem in Ghana, was created to satisfy changing industry demands.

It offers a special venue for recruiting new members, encouraging teamwork, and introducing innovative programs and projects from the international Internet Society. ISOC Ghana is still working to promote an open, secure, and resilient Internet for everyone through GhNOG.
