As the South African startup LocumBase prepares for exponential expansion, Grindstone Ventures has provided the company with an undisclosed funding round. LocumBase is an independent web platform that facilitates medical bookings.

Zulé Vuuren started LocumBase in 2016 with the goal of making it easier to find a locum tenens job by putting South African practices in touch with independent medical experts.

“In order to give the absolute best care for your patients, you, as the owner of a practice or as a main practitioner, need to get some sleep and recharge your batteries. According to Vuuren, “you need a simple and seamless way to manage your temporary team as well as find the best new locums so that you can grow your business.”

How it happened

This is something that LocumBase intends to provide. The Grindstone Accelerator program was successfully finished by the startup in the previous year, and it graduated as the winner of its cohort. The money that the company will receive from Grindstone Ventures, an organization that offers finance to accelerator alumni with a primary focus on companies that were created by women, will assist the company as it starts to scale.

“The LocumBase technology stack has a wide range of potential applications.” We are prepared to scale our operations across the entirety of South Africa and are planning to expand internationally by the end of 2023 at the latest. According to Vuuren, “We see more and more demand from unexplored industries where our core software may have a beneficial influence on labor efficiency and employment chances from day one installation.

Catherine Young, the managing partner of Grindstone Ventures, says the company’s culture is built on the principle of offering equitable investment opportunities for firms that were created by women.

“We are excited about the opportunity to make an investment in a business that is disrupting the traditional way of allocating locums to medical practices,” she said. “LocumBase, as a Grindstone Accelerator alumni company, has grown exponentially since graduating as the overall winner of their cohort in 2021.” “LocumBase, as a Grindstone Accelerator alumni company, has grown exponentially since graduating as the overall winner of their cohort in 2021.”

They have made a contribution towards the goal of achieving gender diversity and equality in the professional landscape of South Africa because they are a company that was created by a woman. Grindstone Ventures is happy to be a part of the LocumBase adventure and can’t wait to see the success that will inevitably come from it.

About Locumbase

LocumBase is a platform that connects independent medical experts with medical practices. This makes sure that high-quality care is always available when and where it is needed most.

Kenyan company Solutech expands to eight other African countries

LocumBase is an independent, online booking and management platform that connects medical professionals with medical practices—both when and where the practices need them. By helping practices that need qualified short-term fill-ins, they make sure that verified locum medical professionals are available in real-time. This lets those practices provide quality care when it is most needed.

The technology provided by LocumBase is able to link practices and locums in a way that is both productive and efficient by utilizing a digital marketplace that is two-sided and enables rapid bookings. Each locum and practice is checked by a person and reviewed on a regular basis to make sure that everyone is working in a safe place.

Locumbase is interested in forming partnerships with healthcare organizations and pharmacies.
