On Monday, the M-PESA Foundation announced a commitment of KES 130 million to transform education in Baringo and Bomet counties. This bold investment targets upgrading school infrastructure and improving learning environments to enhance educational outcomes in these regions.

Major school renovations and new facilities in Baringo

Part of the funding includes a KES 40 million project to renovate Timboiywo Primary School in Baringo Central.

The initiative will construct new Grades 1-9 classrooms and an Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) block to accommodate growing student numbers.

A modern science laboratory will also be built to support practical learning alongside new ablution blocks to improve water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) standards.

Joseph Ogutu, Chairman of the Safaricom Foundation, emphasized the importance of education as a societal cornerstone, stating, “In line with our purpose of transforming lives, we continue to collaborate with various partners, including the Ministry of Education, to invest in school renovation projects across the country, with a focus on the neediest cases.”

Expanding impact across Bomet and beyond

The KES 130 million commitment also extends to schools in Bomet County, where the Foundation plans to support similar infrastructure upgrades and educational programs.

This investment builds on previous efforts by the Foundation, which has funded multiple projects across Kenya, including school renovations and resource centers in various counties.

The M-PESA Foundation intends to boost student performance and retention rates by focusing on infrastructure and learning resources. The initiative aligns with ongoing government and private sector collaborations to improve Kenya’s education sector, particularly in underserved areas.

This strategic funding by the M-PESA Foundation marks a decisive step toward elevating education standards in Baringo and Bomet, promising better opportunities for thousands of learners.
