Madica, an investment programme in Africa, has made the strategic appointments of Rose Odengo and Brenda Wangari public, with an emphasis on Africa, which is committed to the pre-seed stage of startup companies in Africa.

Madica’s dedication to diversity, inclusivity, and innovation in the technology sector across Africa has been strengthened by recent hires.

Going into further detail

Odengo’s great depth of experience and knowledge will lead to her taking on the key post of Head of Communications and Community. Odengo, who is based in Kenya and has nearly two decades of experience, is an outstanding storyteller and seasoned communication strategist. She will draw on her knowledge in advertising, public relations, brand building, journalism, and digital communication. She will provide assistance to Madica and the portfolio firms it manages in effectively expressing their ambitions and journeys with various stakeholders.

In the meanwhile, Wangari, who hails from Kenya and has an exceptional history in programme management, investment research, operations, and network building, will take on a significant role inside Madica’s portfolio firms, helping to nurture their growth and prosperity. Wangari has a strong background in all of these areas. Before she started working for Madica, she was the head of the entrepreneur support programmes at Village Capital. In this role, she worked closely with innovation hubs located all over the continent to help those hubs achieve sustainability while simultaneously extending their services and initiatives for business owners.

Remarks from the head of Madica

In reaction to the appointments, Emmanuel Adegboye, the Head of Madica, voiced his excitement by saying:  “We warmly welcome Rose and Brenda to the Madica team. Their remarkable qualifications and exceptional qualities further enrich our growing organization, and we feel privileged to have them join us. These appointments underscore Madica’s unwavering dedication to embracing diversity and promoting women in leadership positions, setting a positive precedent for the entire industry.

“Our commitment doesn’t stop there. We are equally devoted to supporting underrepresented founders and fueling the growth of pioneering startups across underserved African regions.”

The report Exploring Gender Equality in the African Tech Ecosystem, to which Madica contributed last month, was the first-ever publication focused on gender equality in the African tech startup landscape. The results demonstrated the lack of gender diversity both within startup teams and funding rounds on the continent. Diversity Dividend: Exploring Gender Equality in the African Tech Ecosystem is a ground-breaking report.

Regarding Madica

Madica, which will be released in 2022, will close the gaps that prevent innovation, entrepreneurialism, and the generation of wealth in Africa. The programme aims to empower mission-driven founders, with a particular focus on female-led startups, by providing access to a sector-agnostic fund of $6 million. By giving these founders access to capital and the highest level of assistance available, Madica paves the way for them to create and expand their startups.

In Africa, pre-seed stage enterprises can participate in Madica, which is a structured investment programme. By democratising access to world-class company development help, which is currently exclusively available to a select group of well-networked entrepreneurs, Madica aspires to empower founders whose businesses are driven by a social mission. They provide financial support to excellent businesses in their early stages that are based in Africa.

Throughout the whole course of their business journey, mission-driven founders will have access to world-class support, mentorship, resources, and networks through Madica, which will inspire and empower them.
