Nigerian comedian and content creator Mark Angel took to Instagram on January 5 to share the painful financial ordeal he faced in 2024, revealing that he lost approximately $3.7 million (N5.7 billion) to forex trading.

He described the loss as one of the most challenging experiences of his life, which left him drowning in debt and forced him to lose his properties to loan sharks.

“The year 2024 began like every other year, but I had no idea how much it would test me, how much it would break me, yet ultimately reshape me. It was the year I lost everything, ” Mark said, reflecting on the turmoil.

Mark admitted that his trust in the wrong people within the forex trading circle played a key role in his financial downfall. He explained that only his family and closest friends were aware of his struggles.

“I was drowning in debts, and one by one, I watched all my properties slip into the hands of loan sharks,” he recalled.

Despite the overwhelming challenges, Mark said God’s mercies saw him through the ordeal.

He thanked his friends, family, pastor, ex-wife, and children for their support. “But God… if not for His mercies, I wouldn’t be here writing this,” he stressed.

While undergoing therapy to cope with the trauma of his financial loss, Mark said he faced another setback “A scandal hit, shaking the foundation of my career and questioning the loyalty of those around me.” This experience exposed fake friends and taught him valuable lessons about resilience and faith.

Mark concluded his post by emphasising that 2024 was not just a year of loss but also a year that drew him closer to God. He expressed appreciation for being alive and highlighted the importance of unwavering support from loved ones during trying times.
