Mercedes-Benz announced a significant upgrade in in-car productivity by integrating Microsoft Teams video calls directly into its vehicles, starting with the all-new CLA model on Wednesday.

This pioneering move lets drivers attend Teams meetings using the built-in car camera while on the move, marking a new chapter for mobile collaboration in cars.

In-car video calls: staying connected safely on the road

Mercedes-Benz has developed an enhanced Meetings for Microsoft Teams app that allows drivers to join video calls via the vehicle’s in-car camera without compromising safety.

The car’s system automatically disables the incoming video stream from other participants when the vehicle moves so drivers won’t be distracted by shared screens or slides.

Meanwhile, other participants can see the driver’s video feed, but the driver themselves cannot view shared content while driving. The camera respects local laws and can be turned off anytime.

This innovation is designed for professionals who want to signal their availability and participate in meetings seamlessly without pulling over.

The app also features an innovative dashboard with upcoming meetings, quick access to frequent contacts, expanded chat options, and voice controls for replying to messages, all built to enhance productivity inside the cabin.

Secure workspace on wheels with Microsoft Intune integration

Mercedes-Benz is also the first carmaker to incorporate Microsoft Intune natively within its MB.OS vehicle operating system.

This integration creates a secure business environment, allowing users to effectively separate personal and professional data.

IT administrators can manage device access and security protocols remotely, ensuring enterprise compliance.

Apps like MBUX Notes and Calendar are supported as part of this secure setup.

The rollout of these features begins this summer in Europe and the United States, giving users a reliable and protected workspace while driving.

Additionally, Mercedes-Benz will soon introduce Microsoft 365 Copilot, an AI-powered assistant.

This tool will help drivers prepare for meetings, summarise emails, and manage tasks via voice commands, further positioning cars as versatile workspaces beyond traditional offices and homes.

Ola Källenius, Chairman of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, emphasised the innovation: “By integrating Microsoft’s productivity tools directly into MB.OS, we’re enabling our customers to work smarter and safer on the go”.
