Meta has introduced a groundbreaking wearable, the Meta Ray-Ban Display smart glasses, with a built-in digital display and a unique wristband controller.

Priced at $799, these glasses mark a leap from traditional eyewear by integrating advanced AI technology that lets users interact with digital content without pulling out a phone.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg emphasised, “Glasses are the perfect form factor for personal superintelligence because they allow you to remain present while accessing a wealth of AI functionalities.”

The glasses incorporate a high-resolution colour display discreetly embedded in the right lens. This screen activates only when needed, showing messages, photos, translations, or Meta AI assistance while remaining invisible during regular wear to avoid visual obstruction.

The Meta Neural Band, a wrist accessory, detects subtle hand gestures, such as scrolling or pinching, to select items using electromyography (EMG). This allows users to control the spectacles silently and intuitively.

Innovative wristband controller enables seamless interaction

The Meta Neural Band wristband is engineered from Vectran, a strong yet flexible material that withstands water and wear.

This band provides up to 18 hours of battery life and interprets muscle signals from tiny finger movements, converting them into commands for the glasses.

Zuckerberg demonstrated typing messages discreetly by moving his fingers, saying, “I can reach about 30 words per minute with this. You can get quite speedy”.

Beyond messaging, the wristband lets users navigate photos, adjust volume, and engage with digital content through simple gestures. The glasses last six hours, and the charging case lasts 30 hours.

Using smart glasses and a wristband redefines human-computer connection, moving away from phones and traditional input devices.

Meta’s latest smart glasses reflect a continuing partnership with EssilorLuxottica to blend style and technology. As Zuckerberg noted, these glasses are not just accessories but tools “to enhance your intelligence, improve communication, boost memory, and heighten your senses”.

They will be available starting September 30, aiming to transform how users experience digital life while staying connected to the world around them.

This launch signals a new chapter for AI wearables, making augmented reality more accessible in everyday life through sleek design and innovative controls.
