Microsoft announced on Monday that its Edge browser now includes a new feature called Copilot Mode, transforming it into an AI-powered web browsing assistant.

This mode turns Edge from a traditional browser into an intelligent collaborator that helps users multitask, navigate, and get things done more efficiently.

Copilot mode enhances browsing with AI collaboration

Unlike typical browsers that open many tabs, Microsoft Edge’s Copilot Mode uses AI to analyse all open tabs simultaneously and offer context-aware suggestions.

Sean Lundersay of Microsoft explained, “It doesn’t just give you endless tabs to sift through but works with you as a collaborator that makes sense of it all”.

Users can ask Copilot to compare information from different tabs or summarise content without manually switching between pages.

Additionally, Copilot Mode integrates with the address bar and new tab page, always only one click away. It can answer questions, analyse web documents, and even offer natural language commands to navigate and complete tasks online. Soon, it can book reservations and manage errands directly through the browser, bringing users an “agentic AI” experience.

Availability and privacy considerations

Copilot Mode is available now for Windows and Mac users in regions where Microsoft Copilot is already offered. Microsoft stresses that user data is protected under their privacy standards, ensuring personal information is safe, secure, and not shared without permission.

Users can turn Copilot Mode on or off easily via settings (Settings > AI Innovations > Copilot Mode), letting each user control their AI experience in Edge.

The feature is free for a limited time while in its experimental phase, with possible subscription requirements expected later, though Microsoft has not confirmed details on this yet.

With Copilot Mode live, Microsoft Edge has entered a new era in which AI actively supports the browsing experience in real time. This change intends to reduce frustration with web clutter, improve productivity, and integrate browsing with intelligent, AI-powered assistance.
