Microsoft, an American multinational technology company, has announced that it will lay off more people. It is expected that close to 300 people will lose their jobs at its headquarters in Redmond, Washington.

The Washington State Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) entry reported this new round of layoffs. The story said that 276 people, mostly from the company’s customer service, support, and sales teams, will be leaving their jobs in Redmond and Bellevue.

This news comes just a few weeks after the tech giant’s last fiscal year ended. So, people think that this round of layoffs is part of a plan to restructure the company, just like the last round. Also, Microsoft is having to cut jobs because other big tech companies like Amazon and Google are becoming more and more of a threat.

The company says that this new layoff would touch about 210 office workers and 66 remote workers, for a total of 276 workers.

According to a report, the company’s director said in a statement that organizational and workforce changes are a big part of running a business, so important things would be given priority. That is, a lot of smart investments would be in place to help the organization grow.

The company hasn’t said anything about why the new round of layoffs happened. As the news is likely to worry a lot of people, it’s possible that these cuts are just a roundup and continuation of earlier layoffs caused by leases ending and projects being renewed.

Microsoft: Is it in trouble?

The tech company laid off 10,000 employees a few months ago. This happened after CEO Satya Nadella made it clear that the company has had to make hard choices, like layoffs, over its 47-year history and that it would be harsh on anyone who didn’t adapt to the platform shift.

Satya Nadella was reportedly criticised by the company’s staff after he declared a “landmark year” in which the business achieved record sales but refused to raise the pay of its employees.

Companies have been trying to cut back on their staff because they hired too many people during the outbreak and the global economic slump. Because of this, a lot of tech workers in and around Seattle, Washington, where Microsoft and Amazon are based, have lost their jobs.
