In collaboration with others in the international community, MTN Ghana is spreading the word about how important cybersecurity is, what the best practices are, and why everyone needs to work together to prevent cybercrime.

This is done in observance of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, which takes place throughout the month of October each year.

Therefore, MTN has launched a campaign called “Defending the Digital Line,” which aims to educate the public about cyberattacks and how to deal with them.

Ghanaians have to take responsibility for their safety

The Chief Information Officer of MTN Ghana, Bernard Acquah, is the one who kicked off the month-long campaign by saying, “This October we will focus on the “people” part of cybersecurity, providing information and resources to help educate users and ensure that all individuals make smart decisions, whether on the job or at home – both now and in the future.”

He went on to say that “because we spend so much of our lives online, it is more important than ever to take a proactive approach to protect yourself and the organization you work for,” adding that this is especially true today.

Bernard Acquah said that each Ghanaian is responsible for his or her own safety. He asked each person to take advantage of the events planned for this month to learn what they needed to know to protect themselves and their organizations from cyberattacks.

MTN provides sensitization methods

Customer-based sensitization messages will be sent out via social media and SMS throughout the course of the month. These messages will center on a variety of subthemes, such as “Phight the Phish,” “Cybersecurity Common Sense,” and others.

There will also be specific sessions with students in institutions for the second cycle, as well as sessions with parent-teacher associations in some basic schools in Accra, Ashanti, and Western.

A public forum will also be created electronically with an experienced IT specialist to discuss the topic of the month. This forum will take place in the digital arena.

MTN will also work with other groups to form partnerships and join projects put on by the Cybersecurity Authority and the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications to help this cause.

Beginning in the year 2020, when the COVID-19 epidemic was at its height and the number of people engaging in online activities had increased, MTN Ghana began providing its clients with education on cybersecurity. Experts in their fields, such as Awo Aidam Amenyah and Carl Sackey, have taken turns educating MTN stakeholders on the need to protect children while they are online and on the myriad of threats that can be found in cyberspace.
