This change enhances nationwide inclusion and allows thousands of young spellers across all six geopolitical zones to showcase their skills in person. The competition kicks off with a practice stage starting July 28, 2025.

Multi-stage competition with grand finale in Lagos

The competition comprises five stages: Practice, Entry Phase, Regional Qualification, Physical Regional Competitions, and a Grand Finale.

Three thousand students (500 per zone) will qualify for regional contests from the initial rounds. Twenty top finalists—seven from Ibadan and Enugu, and six from Abuja—will compete at the Grand Finale in Lagos.

This rigorous format creates a platform for spelling excellence, leadership, and self-confidence among youths.

Prizes reflect MTN’s commitment to education and leadership

The winner will receive ₦5 million in educational grants, a new laptop, a smartphone, and the prestigious “MTN CEO for a Day.”

Their teacher and school also benefit, with teachers receiving ₦500,000 and schools awarded laptops, 5G routers, and a ₦10 million flagship project grant.

Onyinye Ikenna-Emeka, MTN Nigeria’s Chief Marketing Officer, described the event as more than just a competition: “It’s a platform for young Nigerians to access recognition, leadership opportunities, and academic support. We are proud to empower the next generation of innovators and leaders,” he said.

Last year’s champion, Ikenna Ikechukwu, credited the competition’s challenges with boosting his confidence and determination, saying, “This platform doesn’t just reward winners; it gives you the confidence to aim higher and believe in your abilities.”

This enduring platform continues to connect education with real opportunity, inspiring thousands of Nigerian students to learn, compete, and shine.

The competition is hosted on the mPulse website and is open to all registered students within the age bracket. Participants are invited to register and begin their spelling journey.

The 2025 edition promises to amplify young voices and talents from every corner of Nigeria.

The competition is hosted on the mPulse portal: https://mpulse.mtn.ng.
