MTN Nigeria is now accepting applications for the fourth cohort of the Media Innovation Program (MIP), set to run from May 19 to October 24, 2025. Following the success of the previous three cohorts, MTN Nigeria is funding this new group of Nigerian media practitioners, with the program taking place at the Pan-Atlantic University’s School of Media and Communication.

A selection process will choose 20 Nigerian journalists from various media outlets to participate in the Media Innovation Program.

Based on the idea that innovation propels change, the MTN MIP aims to broaden participants’ perspectives and develop fresh methods for problem-solving and solution-focused media practice for both industry excellence and the good of humanity.

“SMC will leverage its extensive experience in training media professionals to equip this next cohort. And we will do this with our usual emphasis on creativity and ethics.” the school’s dean said.

4th cohort to build on the achievements of the previous three cohorts

The program’s fourth cohort will build on the achievements of the previous three cohorts to further solidify its position as the most influential training program ever offered to Nigerian journalists. Previous cohorts have demonstrated the program’s ability to positively impact beneficiaries’ careers, allowing many of them to quickly advance to new roles and responsibilities following the training. As is customary, the MTN MIP-4 will encourage innovation among its attendees to enable Nigerian media professionals to perform better at their jobs and to propel innovations that could establish and strengthen the industry’s much-needed sustainability.

There is a greater chance than ever for the program to teach participants how ICT drives the media, how the media amplifies ICT in their mutually beneficial relationship, and how the media can be powerful tools for effective diplomatic interactions.

Participants’ knowledge will be enhanced in four major areas: the telecoms industry, media innovation, writing and reporting, and media diplomacy.

Benefits for participants

The following are the benefits for participants:

  1. Understand how ICT, AI, and digital media are transforming the media landscape.
  2. Improve their reporting and writing abilities.
  3. Gain a deeper comprehension of MTN’s corporate brand, strategic alignment, and positioning.
  4. Through case studies and visits to MTN Nigeria’s offices in Nigeria and its global headquarters in South Africa, gain a firsthand understanding of the company’s operations and difficulties.
  5. Gain a deeper comprehension of the operations of Nigeria’s ICT and telecom sectors and MTN Nigeria’s place within them.
  6. Be prepared to capitalise on current legal methods to make money off their abilities in a rapidly evolving media environment.
  7. Visit the University of Johannesburg in Johannesburg, South Africa, for a study visit.
  8. See how African diplomacy can be advanced through the use of media.
  9. Get a chance to win N1 million for a proven creative idea or for exceptional coverage of the telecom industry throughout the study period.
