The ‘5G2 Business’ Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MTN Nigeria and Seplat Energy has been signed so that MTN Nigeria can deliver 5G services that facilitate business optimisation in Nigeria.

The statement released by the telecommunications operator claims that the 5G2Business MoU attests to remarkable developments in the field of digital transformation in business.

It went on to say that businesses will be able to unlock new efficiencies, automate processes, optimise operations, and boost innovation and productivity to new heights thanks to 5G’s capabilities.

According to MTN, the adoption of 5G services by Seplat is a testament to the company’s desire to lead the digital revolution in the oil and gas sector in Nigeria. This statement was made in reference to Seplat. The reduced latency of 5G technology, which makes possible Internet of Things (IoT) technologies and smart corporate processes, is providing the impetus for the 4th Industrial Revolution to take place all over the world.

Lynda Saint-Nwafor, Chief Enterprise Business Officer for MTN Nigeria, made the following statement on this collaboration:

“We are thrilled to join hands with Seplat Energy to spearhead the integration of intelligent digital technologies into industry processes in Nigeria. With this partnership, we open new vistas of possibilities, empowering enterprises to embrace cutting-edge technologies and digitally transform their day-to-day operations. While revolutionizing the energy sector, this collaboration is set to deliver great value to Seplat Energy’s stakeholders.”

Charles Gbandi, Director of Corporate Services at Seplat Energy, echoed the sentiments of his peers and remarked.

“We are excited to embark on this transformative journey with MTN Nigeria as this collaboration is a game-changer for our industry. As a sustainable business, this partnership marks a significant step forward in embracing 5G technology’s vast potential, and we believe it will empower us to drive innovation, efficiency, and growth in the energy sector.”

About 5G network in Nigeria

MTN Nigeria was the first telecom operator in the country to debut 5G in 2018. However this year MAFAB and Airtel Nigeria have also deployed the same technology. MTN Nigeria was the first telecom operator in the country to launch 5G in 2017.

Prof. Umar Danbatta, Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), recently stated that e-commerce platforms and fintechs in Nigeria would profit greatly from 5G as operators expand the service. This statement was made as the large corporations are already connecting to the technology.

According to him, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), particularly financial technology and electronic commerce companies, are currently developing the digital ecosystem in Nigeria by riding on telecoms infrastructure, which is being improved upon through the deployment of new technologies.

The head of the NCC stated that ongoing efforts to broaden broadband penetration and the implementation of 5G would further boost the services of digital SMEs and that these efforts are now underway.

What is 5G?

5G is the abbreviation for the fifth generation of mobile networks. It is the fifth generation of global wireless technology, following 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G networks. The fifth-generation mobile network, or 5G, provides a new type of network that is intended to connect nearly everyone and everything, including machines, objects, and gadgets.

It is anticipated that 5G wireless technology will enable faster peak data transfer rates of multiple gigabits per second (Gbps), ultra-low latency, enhanced dependability, huge network capacity, increased availability, and a more standardised user experience to a greater number of users. New user experiences can be enabled, and new sectors can be connected thanks to improvements in performance and efficiency.
