Yellow and MTN Rwanda have partnered to launch “Tunga Taci Na MTN,” a campaign that assists consumers in purchasing cellphones.

The objective is to increase the affordability and accessibility of cellphones for more Rwandans. Now, with flexible monthly payment plans, consumers can buy popular brands like Samsung, Tecno, Itel, and Infinix for just R16,000 up front.

This project aims to increase internet accessibility to Rwanda’s financial, business, educational, and communication services.

Breaking barriers with affordable smartphones

Smartphone prices are a significant barrier to digital access in Rwanda. Chief Commercial and Digital Officer Somdev Sen of MTN Rwanda says, “We are addressing one of the key barriers to digital inclusion, which is affordability. By providing customers with affordable smartphones, we empower more Rwandans to connect, learn, and thrive digitally.”

The financing option lets customers buy a new smartphone at any MTN Service Centre or Yellow partner shop with a national ID and pay for instalments. This lowers financial barriers and encourages people to use mobile banking, entrepreneurship, and government services online.

Empowering Rwanda’s digital goals

Michael Heyink, CEO and founder of Yellow, highlights the value of this scheme, saying, “Smartphones are more than just devices; they are gateways to opportunity. We are proud to partner with MTN Rwanda to make these gateways accessible to even more people nationwide.”

This initiative aligns with Rwanda’s Vision 2050, which aims for a fully connected and digitally empowered nation.

Tunga Taci Na MTN supports learning, new ideas, and economic growth by making digital tools accessible through technology-driven platforms and user-friendly methods. Now that this program lowers its cost at MTN and Yellow shops nationwide, many more Rwandans can use technology.

Through their partnership, MTN Rwanda and Yellow are improving connectivity, closing the digital divide, and creating new opportunities for Rwandans.
