The categories of the MTN Scholarships

The MTN Scholarships Programme was established in 2010 by the MTN Foundation. It is an annual award that recognises and rewards deserving high-performing students in three categories at public tertiary institutions in Nigeria:

MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (MTN STS): Since 2010, students at 300 level in Science and Technology programmes at public tertiary institutions in Nigeria (including universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education) have been eligible to apply for the MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (MSTS). Scholarships are provided to 300 students until graduation, provided they meet the grade requirements. The yearly prize money will rise from N200,000 to N300,000 beginning in 2024.

MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (MTN SBS): Since 2012, the MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (MSBS) has been available to qualified blind students enrolled in any degree programme at public tertiary institutions in Nigeria, including universities, polytechnics, and education colleges. There will be one hundred blind students awarded scholarships beginning in 2024, up from sixty-five the previous year. Additionally, the yearly award will be given out until graduation if the grade requirements are met; the amount has been raised from N200,000 to N300,000.

The Top 10 UTME Scholarship: This has been awarded annually since 2020 to the top 10 UTME scorers, as announced by JAMB. These candidates are automatically qualified for the scholarship. When the candidates meet the grade requirements, they are awarded scholarships starting from their 100 level and continuing through graduation. The yearly prize money will rise from N200,000 to N300,000 beginning in 2024.

The Nigerian government does not care which public or private university a top ten UTME scholarship recipient attends or what major they want to major in.

In May 2005, it was commissioned, and the primary funding source for projects was up to 1% of MTN Nigeria Communication PLC’s Profit after Tax (PAT).

The 36 federation states and the FCT have received investments totalling more than NGN24.73 billion from the MTN Foundation. The MTN Foundation runs more than 1,023 project sites and 50 distinct projects in Nigeria. These projects cover 3,323 communities and have reached more than 31,386,125 people.

Through the three scholarship categories, the foundation has empowered impoverished yet deserving Nigerian students to achieve their goals without financial barriers.
