To improve voice, data, and mobile money services and give consumers a seamless online experience, MTN Uganda is launching a massive nationwide network upgrade. The company announced on Tuesday.

The three-month program, which ends in July 2025, is a crucial component of the business’s larger plan to improve customer satisfaction nationwide and fortify digital connectivity.

MTN Uganda’s CEO, Sylvia Mulinge, emphasised that the upgrade was about empowering daily life rather than just improving technology.

“This upgrade is about transforming the daily digital experiences of millions of Ugandans. From students streaming lectures to entrepreneurs managing mobile transactions, our enhanced network will enable every individual to reach their full potential. Together, our network is unstoppable,” Mulinge said.

How the network upgrade is distributed

The countrywide upgrade is being carried out in stages, with the Greater Central region witnessing the largest improvements at 35 percent.

The West, Southwest, North, East, and Central regions follow with 19 percent, 15 percent, 9 percent, and 12 percent, respectively. In both underserved and densely populated areas, this targeted rollout aims to increase capacity, coverage, and reliability.

The majority of upgrades are scheduled for late-night hours to minimise disruption. Customers have been cautioned by MTN, however, to anticipate sporadic, brief service outages while improvements are being made.

Enhancing MTN’s core services—voice calls, high-speed data, mobile money transactions, and enterprise solutions under MTN Business—in terms of dependability, speed, and clarity is the main objective of this initiative.

“At MTN Uganda, our customers are always at the heart of what we do,” said Mackinnon Kabarole, Acting Chief Marketing Officer at MTN Uganda.

“This upgrade aligns perfectly with our ambition to be a leading force in digital solutions for Africa’s growth. We are confident that our customers will feel the positive impact of these improvements.” he added.

MTN’s commitment to network improvement

Kabarole emphasised MTN’s commitment to providing a strong, future-ready network, and she thanked customers for their patience and ongoing support.

“We are working diligently to build a faster, smarter network that drives business, supports dreams, and connects Uganda like never before,” he added.

Customers who require assistance during the upgrade period are urged to get in touch with MTN Uganda’s Customer Experience team by calling X (@mtnug) or the toll-free line 100.

The business, which currently has over 22 million subscribers, has also warned its clients to be on the lookout for fraud by pointing out that official MTN calls only come from 0312120000. Customers can contact the Uganda Communications Commission at 0800222777 for regulatory enquiries.

This network upgrade reinforces MTN Uganda’s vision that “Together, our network is unstoppable” and is part of the company’s long-term commitment to achieving its Ambition 2025 strategy.
