MTN Uganda has commemorated the graduation of 103 youth from the second cohort of the ACE Skilling Programme, an initiative designed to provide young Ugandans with fundamental digital, business, and entrepreneurial skills, through its Foundation.

This accomplishment is indicative of MTN Uganda’s dedication to addressing adolescent unemployment and fostering the nation’s digital transformation through the acquisition of practical skills.

Empowering youth with digital and entrepreneurial skills

The MTN ACE Initiative was launched in 2022 with an investment of UGX 2.17 billion to address youth unemployment, which stands at 13% amid a population where 75% are under 30 years old.

The programme admitted 154 learners for this cohort, of whom 103 completed the training. Forty-four graduates have progressed to the ACE Career Path, which offers paid internships and hands-on training. Remarkably, thirteen of these interns have already landed jobs with MTN Uganda.

General Manager for Corporate Services, Enid Edroma, emphasised, “We hope the skills and knowledge you have acquired give you confidence and inspire you to contribute meaningfully to Uganda’s digital and economic transformation”.

Fostering economic growth through Skills development

Since its inception, the ACE Initiative has graduated 188 youth, with 21 employed directly by MTN Uganda. Beyond jobs within the company, many graduates have started their own enterprises, driving innovation that supports Uganda’s economic growth.

The programme collaborates with the Ministry of ICT & National Guidance, Makerere University Business School, Centenary Technology Services, and MTN MoMo Uganda. This cooperation improves the program’s skills gap-filling for national development.

MTN Uganda’s strategic commitment to youth

The ACE Skilling Programme aligns closely with MTN Uganda’s Ambition 2025 strategy and Uganda’s national development objectives.

The program empowers youth with digital economy-relevant skills. By providing training, mentorship, and professional opportunities, MTN is helping young Ugandans overcome unemployment and advance ICT.

This programme highlights how targeted skills development initiatives can create real opportunities for youth and advance Uganda’s transformation into a digitally skilled and economically dynamic nation.
