Mukuru, a South African financial services platform, has opened a drive-thru facility in Chisipite, Harare, Zimbabwe, to meet the growing need for domestic and international money transfers.

The company’s long-term goal is to fulfil its pledge to make its financial services available to all residents of Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe’s Chisipite Drive-Thru is one of the fintech’s ten fresh openings, along with nine other locations in the area for local and international money transactions.

Mukuru’s country manager for Zimbabwe, Marc Carrie-Wilson, elaborated as follows: “Whilst we are realistic about the economic outlook, as a leading Southern African financial services business, we strive to enable financial inclusion for Africa’s emerging market. This is why we continuously shift our focus to innovative ways that make financial services more accessible for the people of Zimbabwe and those in the diaspora.

“As we continue to expand our presence throughout the country, we have investigated a wide range of creative concepts to push the boundaries and pose a challenge to the kinds of places we occupy as a financial services provider. The safety of our clients is and will continue to be our number one concern, and we found that offering a drive-thru was both the safest and most convenient alternative for them.

“The Chisipite drive-thru is open from 7am to 7pm everyday (including public holidays), and it has a ‘walk-in’ option for customers who desire to register or visit the facility on foot. These hours of operation are consistent over the whole week. At the time, Chisipite is the only one of the 10 new sites to include a drive-thru, but we are working on opening one in Bulawayo during the subsequent phase.

Mukuru recognised as one of the top 100 Cross-Border Payments enterprises

In the past few months, Mukuru has launched a series of services as part of its innovation to build a diverse product offering for customers. These services include partnerships with Multichoice (to make paying for DStv more convenient) and Bereka (to deliver money transfers directly to customers across Zimbabwe). Both of these partnerships are examples of Mukuru’s commitment to innovation.

Carrie-Wilson draws the conclusion that “we have seen how well these collaborations work in our ongoing partnership with wholesaler Metro Peech & Browne,” who makes the purchase of food, stationery, and appliances easier for people in Zimbabwe who use our platform. “We have seen how well these collaborations work in our ongoing partnership with wholesaler Metro Peech & Browne.”

According to the 2022 FXC Intelligence Top 100 Cross-Border Payment Companies report, Mukuru has been recognised as one of the top 100 Cross-Border Payments enterprises worldwide. Mukuru provides services to customers all throughout the region using a combination of digital and classic distribution channels, a number of different payment methods (cash, card, and wallet), and a variety of interactive platforms such as WhatsApp, USSD, contact centre, App, website, agents, and a branch and booth network.

About the company

Mukuru is a platform in Southern Africa that provides clients from Africa, Asia, and Europe with access to trustworthy and reasonably priced financial services, and it’s part of the next generation of financial services platforms. Despite a slowdown in the growth rate in the region, fintech is pushing forward with its aims to improve financial inclusion at this time.

The country manager for Zimbabwe, Carrie-Wilson, made it known that the company first started off by arranging international money transfers, but they have now expanded their offerings to meet the more general requirements of their customers’ financial lives. The financial technology company is presently active in over fifty countries and across over three hundred remittance corridors.
