MultiChoice Africa strengthens ICT collaboration with Uganda

MultiChoice Africa Holdings B.V. (MAH) and Uganda’s Ministry of ICT and National Guidance have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to foster their collaborative efforts. This agreement aims to foster stronger partnerships, drive digitalisation, boost the local content sector, protect intellectual property rights, and develop skills within the existing legal frameworks.

The signing ceremony, held in Johannesburg to benchmark technical facilities, was attended by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance, Dr Aminah Zawedde. This strategic alliance signifies a commitment to advancing Uganda’s digital landscape through robust cooperation and mutual support.

Enhancing Future Cooperation and Local Content

The MoU includes MAH and its affiliate, MultiChoice Uganda, emphasising the importance of continued collaboration between MAH and the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance. Dr. Aminah Zawedde, expressing her enthusiasm, stated, “I am glad to sign this MoU on behalf of the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance for Uganda.”

With a 30-year history in Uganda, MultiChoice has pioneered delivering high-quality sports, educational, and entertainment content. Public-Private Collaboration for Socio-Development

“This MoU signed cordially here today is a step in the right direction in fostering relations between the two parties. We view Uganda as a strategic market for commercial growth and key socio-development initiatives.

The presence of the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance accompanied by the Managing Director for MultiChoice Uganda, Mr Hassan Saleh, demonstrates how the private and public sectors of the economy can collaborate for the broader benefit of the Ugandan society,” said Dr Keabetswe Modimoeng Group Executive: Regulatory & Corporate Affairs (MultiChoice Group).

The participation of Dr Zawedde and Mr Hassan Saleh, Managing Director for MultiChoice Uganda, underscores the potential of public and private sector collaboration.

This partnership is expected to benefit Ugandan society broadly by driving digital transformation and socio-economic development. By combining resources and expertise, MultiChoice and the Ministry of ICT and National Guidance aim to create a robust framework that supports innovation, protects intellectual property, and promotes the sustainable growth of Uganda’s digital economy.
