NCAA Lifts Suspension on United Nigeria Airlines' Airbus

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has reversed the suspension on the Part G operations specifications of a wet-leased Airbus aircraft operated by United Nigeria Airlines.

The suspension was imposed after the airline temporarily diverted its flight NUA 0504, bound for Abuja, to Asaba. The regulatory body, in a letter to the airline’s Managing Director, outlined the investigation’s findings and recommendations, lifting the suspension but mandating compliance with specified regulations.

Background of the Suspension

The suspension was initiated by the NCAA last Sunday following the unexpected diversion of United Nigeria Airlines’ Airbus to Asaba instead of its scheduled destination at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja. All wet lease aircraft on the airline’s fleet were affected by the suspension.

In response to the lifting of the suspension, United Nigeria Airlines issued a press statement expressing gratitude for the reinstatement of their ‘Part G’ operations specifications. The airline apologized for any inconveniences caused to passengers during the period of the suspension and assured customers that safety remains a top priority. United Nigeria Airlines is actively working to resolve the backlog of flights disrupted by the suspension.

Regulatory Oversight and Compliance Conditions

The letter from the NCAA’s Director of Licensing and Training, Captain I.B Danbazzau, emphasized the need for United Nigeria Airlines to adhere to the Nigeria Civil Aviation All Operators letter (DG 15/2023), referenced NCAA/DGCA/AIR/11/16/347. This regulatory oversight reinstates compliance conditions for the airline to ensure operational adherence and safety standards.

United Nigeria Airlines acknowledged the impact of disruptions on passenger travel plans and expressed commitment to passenger safety. The airline recognizes the significance of maintaining reliability in its operations to restore trust among its customers. The lifting of the suspension is a step towards normalizing operations and addressing any concerns raised by the regulatory incident.

According to the statement, “we are pleased to announce the lifting of the suspension placed on our ‘Part G’ operations specifications which affected one of our aircraft. We want to express our deepest gratitude to you for keeping faith with us and for your understanding during this period.

“Safety is at the core of United Nigeria Airlines’ values and we take our commitment to passenger safety very seriously. We are aware that every time our schedule is disrupted, it is usually a very painful experience for you and for us as well because we know and understand that it affects travel plans and diminishes your trust in the reliability of our operations,” the statement read.
