The Federal Government of Nigeria has partnered with India to accelerate the innovation digital economy in the country. 

Dr. Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, who was represented by Kashifu Inuwa, the Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), met with Dr. M.M. Tripathi, the Director-General of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) in a significant step towards strengthening collaboration in the field of digital economy in order to fulfil President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision of creating one million digital

Purpose of the discussion for Nigeria and India

The purpose of the discussion, which was held as part of the participation of the Federal Government in the G20 Summit in India, was to foster a deeper understanding of the digital economy in India and identify prospects for knowledge transfer and collaboration.

The conversations touched on a wide variety of subjects, ranging from the cultivation of digital skills to cybersecurity and creativity.

Inuwa voiced his confidence regarding the potential of mutual prosperity while highlighting the significance of capitalising on India’s extensive knowledge of digital technologies in order to strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy.

Leaders from both countries, Nigeria and India, stressed the importance of this alliance not just in terms of bilateral cooperation but also in terms of making contributions to a more comprehensive digital ecosystem worldwide.

They believed that by working together, they would be able to speed up their own digital transitions while simultaneously playing a more influential part in the process of forming the global technology landscape.

In a separate but connected event, a Nigerian delegation travelled to the headquarters of the National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) for the purpose of conducting business there.

Mr. Shivendra Singh, Vice President of Global Trade Development, extended a warm welcome to the Nigerian team and led constructive conversations with them about possible areas of partnership in the technology ecosystem.

Mr. Singh brought attention to India’s flourishing software and service business, which has garnered a worldwide reputation for being among the best in the world.

He voiced his excitement about the prospect of working with the country to locate potential business partners and investigate synergies that may be beneficial to both countries.

The Director General of the Nigerian Information Technology Development Agency (DG NITDA) highlighted Nigeria’s dedication to constructing a vibrant digital economy. He spoke about the government’s measures to stimulate technological innovation and develop a thriving startup ecosystem in Nigeria, as well as the necessity for international partnerships to accelerate Nigeria’s growth in the digital arena. He also spoke about the need for international alliances.

Final agreement 

Mr. Shivendra Singh, on his part, showed a commitment to support collaboration and knowledge exchange between Nigerian and Indian technology companies. He also noted Nigeria’s growing prominence in Africa’s digital ecosystem.

Following the fruitful sessions, the teams from Nigeria and India came to an agreement that they would construct an implementation plan on the highlighted areas of cooperation. These areas include the development of skills, the transfer of technology, and the formation of business relationships. The purpose is to foster the growth of a sustainable digital economy while also fostering stronger bilateral relationships.
