The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) officially announced on Friday the full restoration of its National Identification Number (NIN) verification services across Nigeria.

This development came after a brief disruption caused by a system maintenance exercise, which affected banks, telecom operators, and government agencies relying on NIN verification.

NIMC ends service disruption after system maintenance

NIMC’s statement confirmed that all previously disrupted services have resumed, reassuring the public and stakeholders that the technical maintenance was completed.

The commission expressed gratitude for the patience Nigerians showed during the downtime, which had slowed operations for various sectors dependent on NIN verification.

To facilitate access, NIMC urged Nigerians who wish to enrol for their NIN to visit the official website to find the nearest enrollment centres.

Additionally, the commission encouraged using its self-service portal for tasks such as data modification, including name changes, to streamline the user experience.

How to check your NIN status easily

Checking your NIN status is straightforward and can be done using multiple convenient methods:

*Dial 346# on your mobile phone -This USSD code works across all Nigerian networks. After dialling, follow the prompts to retrieve or validate your NIN.

The system will confirm if your NIN is valid and active. A small fee may apply depending on your network provider.

Use the NIMC Mobile App -Available on Google Play Store and Apple App Store, the app lets you log in using your NIN, name, and phone number.

It displays your NIN status as “active” if valid. The app also allows you to generate a Virtual NIN (vNIN) for easy identity validation.

Visit an Enrollment Centre -If you don’t have a NIN yet, you can find a nearby NIMC enrolment centre through the NIMC website or by dialling *346# and selecting the enrollment option. Bring valid identification documents for registration.

Restoring these services marks a crucial step in ensuring seamless identity verification nationwide. With the NIN verification fully operational, banks, telecom providers, and government agencies can resume normal functions that depend heavily on this service.

The NIMC’s swift communication and clear guidance on enrollment and verification tools underscore its commitment to improving national identity management systems and supporting Nigeria’s digital infrastructure.
