NITDA is partnering with Google to close the skills gap and produce a workforce prepared for the future.

The partnership aims to modernise the educational system through digital tools, AI-enhanced learning platforms, and skills training that prepares students for future digital careers.

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has joined forces with Google to modernise Nigeria’s educational system by introducing digital tools, AI-driven learning platforms, and skills training aimed at preparing students for the demands of tomorrow’s digital economy.

The partnership was announced on Saturday during a series of high-level meetings between NITDA Director General Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi and Marcus Jadotte, Google’s Vice President of Government Affairs & Public Policy (Cloud).

The delegation engaged with key government officials, including Dr. Maruf Olatunji Alausa; the Minister of Communication, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani; the Minister of the Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo; and the National Security Advisor, Nuhu Ribadu.

“These strategic engagements aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda of harnessing digitalisation to promote economic and societal development, enhance public service delivery through smart technologies, strengthen digital education infrastructure, advance national cybersecurity resilience and support cloud adoption and optimise government technology costs,” NITDA stated.

Other benefits of the partnership

Additionally, the collaboration will include cutting back on technology spending in the public sector, increasing worker productivity nationwide, enhancing public service and governance effectiveness, boosting national security by utilising digital intelligence, and drawing in foreign capital to promote long-term economic growth.

To lay the groundwork for a safe, inclusive, and creative digital economy, NITDA and Google reaffirmed their shared goal of assisting Nigeria in becoming a regional leader in cybersecurity and artificial intelligence throughout West Africa.

NITDA’s Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan

Google Vice President of Government Affairs & Public Policy (Cloud), Marcus Jadotte, had earlier met with NITDA Director General Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi to discuss ways to promote strategic cooperation and investment in Nigeria.

At the meeting, Inuwa introduced NITDA’s Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan (SRAP 2.0), emphasising an economy driven by digital innovation to Jadotte. He emphasised that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The main topic of discussion was how to match Google’s investments with Nigeria’s objectives for digital transformation, especially by implementing supportive legislation.

He reaffirmed NITDA’s dedication to creating a favourable environment for tech leaders in terms of regulations and investment.

Jadotte emphasised how Google Cloud can help the country’s digital ecosystem and economic growth while reaffirming Google’s strong commitment to growing its investment in Nigeria.

This meeting emphasises Google’s commitment to utilising innovation and policy to support Nigeria’s digital prosperity.
