Nigeria’s agency, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), in partnership with the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, has initiated a comprehensive Digital Literacy Training and Certification program for federal civil servants to equip them with the necessary IT knowledge and skills to improve public service delivery.
The program, which was announced on Monday, aims to train 69,000 federal civil servants under the Head of Service weekly, covering the entire workforce in nine months.
Goals of the Digital Literacy Training
The three-day workshop, which is being held at the Public Service Institute of Nigeria (PSIN) e-Government Training Centre, aims to strengthen Nigeria’s position as a global centre for technology and innovation and to foster the development of human capital in the digital economy.
In his remarks, NITDA Director General Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, CCIE, reaffirmed the government’s goal of having 70 percent of Nigerians be digitally literate by 2027 in accordance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Importance of digital literacy
He also emphasised the importance of digital literacy in fostering innovation, improving governance, and fostering inclusive economic growth.
The program is a crucial part of NITDA’s mission to upskill civil servants, making sure that workers in the public sector are prepared to use digital solutions for better service delivery and governance.
