The way most people view and engage with AI has altered due to ChatGPT, a commonly used application that can do everything from help developers with code to planning getaways.

On Wednesday, its developer, OpenAI, declared that it has secured a significant technological client, which it thinks will indicate how something such as this can transpire in the work environment.

PwC, the management consulting giant, will become OpenAI’s biggest client, covering 100,000 users. Also, the consulting firm will become OpenAI’s first partner for selling the AI company’s enterprise offerings to other businesses.

In August 2023, OpenAI introduced ChatGPT’s enterprise tier as part of a significant effort to commercialise its generative AI technologies, building on the billions of dollars it has raised. More rapidly, limitless interactions and greater flexibility in creating personalised models for various use cases are features of the enterprise tier. It also includes additional tools and analytics.

OpenAI will still have to convince organisations to shift from minor and occasional use, or pilots, of its generative AI products and consider it a significant IT, business process and workforce investment.

A strategic partnership: PwC becomes OpenAI’s first Resale partner

Richard Hasslacher, a global head of alliances and partnerships at OpenAI, stated in an interview that PWC is the first partner the company is putting a lot of emphasis on. “PwC grows to be their biggest client, but they’re also the first partner to resell ChatGPT enterprise. In addition to offering a broad range of services that clients need to utilise in an entirely new solution category, it is penetration into industrial sectors.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT’s enterprise tier has 600,000 users, including 93% of Fortune 500 companies. PwC’s 100,000 employees in the U.S., U.K., and the Middle East could significantly boost this number, potentially reaching 328,000. This deal represents PwC’s business evolution, growth, and development opportunities for consulting deals.

PwC’s Bret Greenstein, a partner and generative AI leader, believes that adopting ChatGPT will not threaten jobs or put your job at risk but will allow the company to grow its business without adding more workforce or manual effort. Greenstein believes that as technology improves, PwC can focus on outcomes, transformation, workflow, use cases, and business processes rather than assembling APIs.

Business Potentials of Generative AI

One of the main concerns around generative AI has been whether or not these services will be used consistently or if they are merely hype. While Greenstein would not disclose the number of genAI products that PwC uses daily, he did point out that 90% of users had engaged with the company’s educational resources.

More crucially, generative AI may open a significant new economic opportunity for consulting firms like PwC. This is part of a larger argument the company makes around “digital transformation,” which has been a prominent issue in IT for many years.

The consumer and self-service editions of ChatGPT are $20 and $30, respectively. Although enterprise pricing is not made public, Reddit proposes Paying $60 per ticket annually for 150 seats. OpenAI is creating a channel strategy but intends to keep interacting with businesses.

Richard Hasslacher stated that they have a customer success team that will support their customers in the deployment of their genAI solutions, but they have limited capacity, and that’s really where the partner ecosystem comes into play. For now, PwC is its reselling partner; a lot more related to that ecosystem will also be seen.
