OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Pulse, a new feature for Pro users that transforms ChatGPT from a reactive chatbot into an anticipatory personal assistant. Unlike before, ChatGPT only answers questions on demand.

Pulse proactively researches and delivers personalised updates every morning. The company calls it a “new experience” where the AI synthesises information from users’ chat history, memory, and feedback to send daily insights tailored just for them.

Proactive daily updates with ChatGPT Pulse

Pulse works behind the scenes overnight and prepares a “smart newspaper” of visual cards filled with updates that matter to each user.

These briefs can include follow-ups on topics frequently discussed, event reminders, meal recipes, travel plans, or guidance toward long-term goals such as fitness training.

Each day begins with fresh, scannable updates intended to prompt users to check ChatGPT first thing in the morning, much like browsing social media or news apps. OpenAI stresses that safety filters are in place to screen out harmful content.

Exclusive to Pro users with plans to expand

ChatGPT Pulse is available exclusively to subscribers of the $200-a-month ChatGPT Pro plan on mobile devices. Once efficiency improves, the company plans to roll it out to Plus users and all ChatGPT customers. As OpenAI builds out its server capacity with partners like Oracle and SoftBank, Pulse represents a broader effort to make AI more helpful, asynchronously working for users even when not interacting.

OpenAI’s CEO of Applications, Fidji Simo, highlighted that Pulse aims to democratise high-level personal assistant capabilities previously only accessible to the wealthy.

This proactive AI update signals a shift in how conversational AI serves users. Starting today with ChatGPT Pulse for Pro users, it will move toward anticipating needs and delivering curated daily intelligence personalised at an individual level.
