OpenAI recently launched GPT-5, marking a leap forward in artificial intelligence technology.

The company claims GPT-5 is its smartest and fastest model yet, designed to bring expert-level intelligence directly to everyone who uses ChatGPT, now totalling 700 million weekly users.

Sharper reasoning, safer interactions

GPT-5 elevates AI’s reasoning ability like never before. OpenAI CEO, Sam Altman, described the experience this way: “With GPT-4, it felt like conversing with a college student. With GPT-5, it genuinely feels like engaging with an expert on any subject, akin to a PhD-level professional.”

Moreover, the model was tested for 5,000 hours and trained to recognise when it can’t complete a task, avoid speculation, and clarify its limitations, thus reducing inaccurate or “hallucinated” responses.

Rather than preventing risky questions, GPT-5 uses “safe completions,” offering helpful answers that stay within safety guidelines.

Altman further emphasised that, “GPT-5 is trained to identify tasks that can’t be finished and minimise unsupported claims compared to prior models.”

Revolutionising workflows across Industries

One groundbreaking feature of GPT-5 is “vibe coding,” enabling the model to write entire software applications from scratch swiftly.

Aaron Levie, CEO of Box, which has trialled GPT-5 with vast and complex datasets, called it a “complete breakthrough,” stating the AI can “retain significantly more information” and handle “higher levels of reasoning logic.”

Besides coding, GPT-5 enhances writing, healthcare inquiries, and other intelligent tasks, promising to augment workflows in business and research.

Through its real-time router, GPT-5 decides the best approach for each task without requiring users to choose settings, making the AI more intuitive and natural.

Microsoft wasted no time incorporating GPT-5 into its products, including Microsoft 365 Copilot and GitHub Copilot, wherein developers will benefit from its advanced coding capabilities and agent-like task execution.

In an exciting yet sobering note, Altman compared the release of GPT-5 to the Manhattan Project, expressing a sense of personal humility about the AI’s power.

“There are moments in science when people look at what they’ve created and ask, ‘What have we done?’” he reflected, highlighting the profound impact these AI advances could have on society.

With the rollout of GPT-5, OpenAI is pushing the boundaries of AI’s role in the workplace by delivering a tool that thinks faster and deeply understands complex problems. This ushers in a new age where AI is an indispensable expert partner.
