Orange Tunisia has officially inaugurated a next-generation data centre in Kalaa Kebira, Sousse, marking a significant milestone in the country’s digital transformation drive.

The opening ceremony brought together top industry and government stakeholders, including Sofiene Hemissi, Tunisia’s Minister of Communication Technologies; Blolotte Ba, Deputy Director General for the Middle East and Africa at Orange; and Thierry Millet, CEO of Orange Tunisia.

Orange Tunisia said the data centre will serve both its internal operations and corporate clients, with offerings such as cloud hosting, data backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions.

Locally driven project with global standards

Unlike many large-scale ICT projects, the data centre was developed entirely by Tunisian companies, showcasing local capacity in information technology and engineering.

The project reflects the growing expertise of the Tunisian digital ecosystem while aligning with global best practices in infrastructure development.

Ba emphasised the regional importance of the investment: “Tunisia is strategically positioned, and with this new infrastructure, Orange is reinforcing its role as a key player in accelerating digital transformation across Africa and the Middle East.”

Strategic location and advanced security

Located in Kalaa Kebira, the site is directly connected to Orange Tunisia’s fibre optic network, enhancing customer connectivity and reliability nationwide.

The data centre also integrates advanced security systems, including biometric access controls and real-time monitoring, to protect sensitive business information.

Minister Hemissi described the centre as a cornerstone for the country’s digital economy. “This investment comes at a crucial time when Tunisia is pushing for digital innovation and strengthening its ICT infrastructure to meet the needs of businesses and citizens,” he said.

Supporting Business Growth and Innovation

Orange Tunisia highlighted that the data centre is a tool for growth beyond serving as a technical facility. It enables Tunisian companies—particularly SMEs and startups—to scale their operations with reliable digital support.

The facility also positions Tunisia as an attractive hub for regional companies seeking secure and modern ICT services.

By investing in future-proof infrastructure, Orange Tunisia is bolstering national digital sovereignty and contributing to job creation, knowledge transfer, and the overall competitiveness of the local economy.
