PostBank’s Wendi wallet extensive reach

Officials said that people may now easily receive money from their loved ones in their wallets thanks to Western Union’s extensive global network, which covers more than 200 nations and territories.

Additionally, they can send money to bank accounts and mobile wallets anywhere in the world and pick up cash at foreign places.

The introduction adds a new, all-inclusive digital option for clients, expanding on Western Union and PostBank Uganda’s current partnership in providing in-person services.

“Uganda’s fast-growing digital landscape presents an immense opportunity to enhance financial inclusion,” said Mohamed Touhami el Ouazzani, Regional Vice President of Africa, Western Union.

“This new service reaches banked and unbanked populations, ensuring more Ugandans can participate in the global economy. Integrating Western Union international money transfers in the Wendi app is a step further in our Evolve 2025 strategy to make digital services more accessible to customers. As Uganda continues to embrace digital technologies, we are proud to be at the forefront – connecting families and communities,” he added.

PostBank, Western Union’s partnership aims to provide financial inclusion

Similarly, the launch reinforces PostBank Uganda’s longstanding objective and commitment to providing appropriate financial services that economically alter lives and facilitate underprivileged people’s access to the global financial ecosystem.

“With Wendi, we are empowering Ugandans, especially those who may have limited access to traditional banking services, to access secure savings accounts, earn 10% annual interest on daily savings, and complete various financial transactions with ease,” said Andrew Kabeera, the Executive Director for PostBank Uganda.

“This collaboration with Western Union furthers this by offering our customers a reliable, easy-to-use outlet for international money transfers. Wendi is central to our mission of making financial services accessible to all Ugandans, empowering them to connect with the global community and driving socio-economic development,” he emphasised.

Western Union, PostBank’s partnership leverages Uganda’s rapid digital adoption

The partnership between Western Union and Wendi by PostBank Uganda coincides with the country’s rapid digital adoption, as mobile money transactions have increased in recent years.

According to a recent report by the Bank of Uganda, over 43 million customers registered to access mobile money in 2023.

Collaboration with Wendi will support this demand by offering an effective, user-friendly option for money transfers, especially for those who might not have access to traditional banking services.

Officials stated that Wendi mobile wallet users could also take advantage of other benefits, like bill payment and micro financial services, in addition to international transfers, and withdraw cash from the wallet at any Wendi kiosk nationwide.
