PUBG MOBILE has unveiled the 2025 Africa Cup, a first-of-its-kind tournament offering Sub-Saharan African teams a direct route to the global stage of mobile esports.
Backed by smartphone brand Infinix, the competition runs from June to September, with player registration open via the PUBG MOBILE app from June 26 to July 9. For the winner, a place at the prestigious PUBG MOBILE Global Championship (PMGC) Finals is on the line.
PUBG MOBILE Africa Cup creates historic pathway to PMGC finals
The Africa Cup is a breakthrough moment for Sub-Saharan Africa’s gaming community. Until now, African players had no direct path to the PMGC despite the tournament’s global relevance since 2020.
This new format corrects that, giving African teams a chance to compete at the world’s highest level in mobile esports.
Organised by PUBG MOBILE and backed by smartphone brand Infinix, the competition will include online qualifiers, group stages, and an all-expenses-paid grand finale in Kenya this September.
The top-performing team will earn an automatic spot in the PMGC Finals and claim $2,000 of the event’s $8,000 prize pool. The second and third place finishers will receive $1,400 and $1,000 respectively, with prizes awarded down to the 16th position.
Tournament format and inclusive registration
The Africa Cup is open to players from across Sub-Saharan Africa. Registration is simple and accessible, exclusively through the PUBG MOBILE app.
The structure includes multiple stages designed to test skill, strategy, and consistency: online qualifiers, group matches, and the final showdown in Nairobi.
The Kenya grand finals will be a major moment for regional esports. Travel and accommodation will be fully covered by the organisers, ensuring financial constraints don’t hinder participation.
This inclusive approach is expected to attract top-tier talent and expand PUBG MOBILE’s player base across the continent.
PUBG MOBILE’s Head of Publishing in Sub-Saharan Africa, Brian, described the Africa Cup as a celebration of the continent’s gaming spirit. “We are so excited by the Africa Cup and we just can’t wait to see players from all over the continent drop into the zone and fight side by side with their squads for the title of Africa’s best,” he said.
Africa’s growing presence in global mobile gaming
The Africa Cup 2025 marks a turning point in how global publishers view the potential of African esports. Mobile gaming is booming across the region, driven by better internet access and affordable smartphones.
PUBG MOBILE, developed by Tencent’s LIGHTSPEED STUDIOS and KRAFTON, is betting on this momentum to fuel a new era of competitive gaming.
Beyond the prize money, visibility at the PMGC can unlock sponsorships and career opportunities for African gamers. The Africa Cup is a platform to show the world what the continent’s esports scene is capable of.
Fans can follow the action on PUBG MOBILE Africa’s TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube channels. With growing support from brands like Infinix and a robust competitive structure, the 2025 Africa Cup is more than a game—it’s Africa’s leap into global esports history.
