In a remarkable move, Reddit has broken down boundaries across languages by extending its search capabilities powered by artificial intelligence to include five additional languages: French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese.

With this change, millions of people in Brazil, France, Germany, Spain, Mexico, and Italy will immediately have access to a search experience that offers conversational capabilities.

As CEO, Steve Huffman emphasised, Reddit’s search now attracts over 70 million weekly users. Additionally, Reddit Answers, the AI-powered feature, engages over 6 million individuals. Since its inception in late 2024, this represents Reddit’s most significant international AI initiative.

AI search meets multilingual demand

Reddit’s new AI-powered search allows users to communicate with a Google AI model in a natural question-and-answer format. This function complements Reddit’s keyword search and provides rapid, succinct replies from the platform’s enormous community discussions.

Users get direct responses from Reddit threads instead of searching through many posts. Five languages allow non-English users to use Reddit, one of its fastest-growing user categories.

Reddit’s strategy in AI search expansion

While giants like OpenAI and Google compete mainly in English markets, Reddit has quietly built its search empire by focusing on non-English, community-driven spaces. The multilingual rollout aligns with a growing trend where Q&A-style AI search platforms win user loyalty.

Huffman also announced plans to integrate AI-powered and traditional search to improve speed, accuracy, and usability. Since Reddit’s conversational AI search combines community expertise with cutting-edge AI, millions worldwide can discover more easily.
