In response to the expanding demands of individual and corporate clients, Safaricom has boosted internet speeds for residential and commercial users.

In addition, Safaricom announced that it has launched a new, ultra-fast 1000Mbps (Gigabit per second) Platinum plan for home fibre, priced at $154.44 (KES 20,000) per month.

It makes Safaricom the first provider of Giga speeds for home internet, catering to the demands of heavy users who require ultra-fast speeds, such as virtual reality applications, content creators, and gamers.

Current clients will immediately be upgraded to the enhanced packages to take advantage of the improved speeds. In addition, Safaricom announced the debut of the Family Share plan, an integrated solution that bundles home internet, SMS, data, and mobile phones into a single plan to improve your experience with your loved ones.

You can share the combination plan with as many as five people in your home. In addition, customers who purchase the bronze plan instead of the fibre and voice/data plan individually can save up to 20%, which is advantageous given the current economy.

“To meet the growing demand and usage, we have boosted our home internet speeds by providing dependable connectivity and better value for our clients. With the launch of the increased speeds, users can effortlessly handle even the most demanding online activities, such as gaming, cloud computing, virtual reality, high-definition streaming (4K/8K), and substantial file transfers. Additionally, family share—which can be shared with up to five loved ones—offers a combined mobile and internet solution for the home.

Safaricom CEO’s remark

According to Peter Ndegwa, CEO of Safaricom PLC, “We are eager to deliver a great experience and value by innovating to meet and exceed customer needs.”

Furthermore, according to Safaricom, it would conduct estate clinics, improve capacity in crowded locations, and provide affordable 4G and 5G options for residences without fibre access.

Safaricom has updated its Business Fibre plans for Enterprise clients, offering higher speeds for Micro and Small Enterprises and new ones of up to 1 Gbps for Medium and large enterprises.

Competitive, dedicated internet options with speeds up to 1Gbps will be available to medium-sized and large enterprises, providing them with the flexibility, dependability, and uptime they want. These plans include static IP support, embedded security, burst ability, network visibility, proactive monitoring around the clock, backup choices (by fibre, 5G, or wireless connectivity), and an astounding 99.99% uptime.

Safaricom set to improve Internet speeds and reliability

Meanwhile, as it prepares to celebrate 25 years of operations in the market, the technology company says it plans to roll out over the following 13 months to create more significant connections with consumers and partners.

Safaricom expanded its Fibre footprint by more than 3,000 kilometres in the most recent fiscal year, bringing its nationwide coverage to more than 17,000 km in response to the growing demand for residential and corporate internet.

In FY24, approximately 110,000 new users—a mix of homes and businesses—connected to the service, bringing consumers with fast and dependable internet connections through Safaricom to over 370,000 homes and 32,000 enterprises.
