Samsung Food: AI sous chef that drafts recipes, meals plans on your TV screen

Samsung on Sunday announced an innovative feature for its 2025 TV models, Samsung Food, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, U.S.

This feature uses artificial intelligence to identify food items on the screen and suggest corresponding recipes, transforming viewers’ interactions with cooking shows and food-related content.

The vision behind Samsung food

The concept of Samsung Food originated from Whisk, a food app acquired by Samsung in 2019 and rebranded in 2023. This app allows users to plan meals and receive AI-driven cooking instructions.

The integration into TV models QN90F, QN80F, and QN70F marks a significant step in enhancing user experience by bridging the gap between entertainment and culinary exploration.

As Akash Pandey from NewsBytes noted, “Samsung Food is powered by the company’s AI processor” to deliver recipe suggestions based on what viewers see on-screen.

Features and limitations

It can track grocery deliveries and create shopping lists based on ingredients available in your home.

Samsung describes this tool as “the ultimate AI sous chef,” emphasising its potential to simplify user meal preparation.

However, scepticism remains regarding its accuracy and practicality compared to recipe apps.

Samsung’s founder, Lee Byung-chul, envisioned a future where technology seamlessly integrates into daily life. This latest innovation aligns with that vision by making cooking accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

As viewers watch their favourite cooking scenes, they can easily transition from passive observation to active participation in the kitchen.
