TikTok allows users to send audio notes and share photos, videos, and text messages in direct messaging. This update enriches TikTok’s DMs beyond video and text.

Voice memos up to 60 seconds and nine pictures or videos can be recorded and sent in one-on-one or group chats, making conversations more intimate.

Voice notes are particularly popular among younger users, as they provide a low-pressure alternative to inputting. They can be recorded by holding the microphone icon in the DM interface and deleting messages within minutes of sending or securing the recording.

The integration of voice communications into TikTok is consistent with the capabilities of Instagram and WhatsApp, satisfying the demand for more expressive, multimedia conversations.

The ability to send images via direct messages (DMs) has been eagerly anticipated by numerous users, as reported by Mashable. This feature is now also supported by in-app altering tools.

This upgrade prioritises privacy and safety. New restrictions restrict media attachments to allowed connections and prevent users from submitting images as message requests to eliminate undesirable content.

The only people who can use DMs on TikTok are 16 and older, and the app automatically blocks nudity-tagged photographs to safeguard younger users. These safeguards limit misuse, make the environment safer, and encourage meaningful user participation.

This action reflects TikTok’s goal to develop into a more extensive social network where users frequently communicate with one another via private messaging rather than just an entertainment platform. By adding voice notes and picture sharing to direct messages, TikTok keeps up with rivals like Instagram and WhatsApp, which have long provided these features.

Industry watchers interpret this as a component of TikTok’s strategic initiative to increase user engagement and offer solutions that combine sharing private, intimate messages with public material.

The rollout will be available to users worldwide over the next few weeks. It will offer more prosperous and dynamic messaging choices and a new method of connecting with friends and artists on the platform. This upgrade is a big step towards making TikTok a more flexible social network than just short videos.
