Amazon‘s Lens Live AI-powered shopping tool turns your smartphone camera into a real-time product scanner and assistant. Customers may now point their camera at objects to rapidly find matching Amazon items and buy or save them to wish lists.

This merges the digital and physical worlds for the first time, revolutionising purchasing convenience.

How Lens Live transforms real-world shopping

Lens Live goes beyond traditional visual search by constantly scanning the camera view in real time. When you open the Amazon Shopping app’s Lens Live, the camera automatically detects products and displays matches in a swipeable carousel along the bottom of the screen.

Tap any item to focus and add it to your cart or wishlist without leaving the camera view. Rufus, Amazon’s AI shopping assistant, helps shoppers make quick, informed decisions by providing product summaries and answering queries.

Amazon VP and AI expert Trishul Chilimbi claimed Lens Live makes shopping “faster and more interactive” by combining deep learning product recognition with AI insights.

Using SageMaker and OpenSearch, Lens Live employs on-device machine vision models to detect objects as you pan your camera and match them to billions of Amazon products.

This quick detection eliminates the need to type or take images; it’s seamless. Lens Live is first available for iOS in the US and will expand soon.

AI shopping assistant Rufus enhances the experience

Rufus, Amazon’s generative AI assistant integrated into Lens Live, takes the hassle out of product research by providing concise summaries and suggested questions within the app.

Rufus can answer quickly whether you want to know if a lamp is dimmable or if a chair fits a small space. This tight integration brings added value by turning simple product scanning into an interactive discovery journey.

It also pushes the shopping experience forward by offering an AI-powered, always-available guide embedded directly in the camera view.

With Lens Live, Amazon bridges the gap between physical browsing and seamless online shopping with a tool that recognises products and encourages instant purchase decisions.

Artificial intelligence enhances ease and decision-making by leveraging real-world buying patterns like price comparison. Lens Live lets shoppers buy what they see easily, anywhere, anytime.
