With the introduction of SolarTaxi to the market, competition in the ride-hailing application business is expected to heat up. SolarTaxi, Ghana’s first e-mobility startup, is Africa’s first electric car ride-hailing mobile application company.

As part of the launch, the “SolarTaxi App” was made available to commuters, allowing them to use the SolarTaxi service.

What SolarTaxi Intends To Achieve With Its Business Model

At the company’s debut in Accra on Thursday, Gilbert SefaNuwordu, the Head of SolarTaxi Ride, stated that the company’s goal was to provide consumers with greener and cleaner modes of transportation for their convenience and value for money at an 80 percent lower cost.

As a firm, we strive to provide new and innovative modes of transportation. “Our goal is to provide electric mobility services in a clean and ecologically responsible manner at a low cost,” he stated.

Mr. Nuwordu stated that the company will begin operations between East Legon and the airport to provide low-cost transportation to inhabitants of the area, and will eventually expand to other parts of the city.

More on SolarTaxi Model

“The SolarTaxi Application is a new solution that will strive to provide low-cost transportation to inhabitants of East Legon and the airport within a 10-kilometer radius.” All of the vehicles will be electric, and we will offer rates that are 80% lower than what is currently available on the market. “

With a current fleet of 30 electric vehicles, Mr. Nuwordu stated that the company plans to launch 100 electric vehicles by the end of the year, resulting in 100 jobs for the youth.

He encouraged commuters to use SolarTaxi since it was cheaper than other competitors in the industry, claiming that SolarTaxi was at least 80% cheaper than other players in the market due to the company’s use of electric automobiles.

For example, he stated that while the other players charge GH1.7 per kilometer, SolarTaxi charges GH1.3 per kilometer.

“Unlike other ride-hailing applications that raise pricing during peak hours, SolarTaxi charges the same rate throughout the day, even during peak hours,” Mr. Nuwordu explained. Mr. Nuwordu stated that the company was offering trips as low as GH1 from Friday to Sunday in order to bring value to its valued consumers.

About SolarTaxi

In terms of the company’s history, Mr. Nuwordu stated that SolarTaxi began as a project and was launched in September 2018 by Kumasi Hive in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation with the goal of alleviating poverty, creating jobs, and protecting the environment.

Commuters can download the SolarTaxi on Android, the Playstore, and iOS, according to him. Mr. Thomas Takyi, Managing Director of TT Transport and Logistics, stated in his remarks that his company was happy to be engaged with SolarTaxi to provide transportation services to the general public via electric cars.

He stated that the adoption of electric vehicles would assist in improving the environment and minimizing pollution.

Mr. Takyi went on to say that with the rising cost of petrol, electric vehicles were the best option and that his company was working to convert its vehicles to electric ones.
