Sonatel Group on Thursday announced the appointment of Brelotte BA as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective August 1. This leadership change marks a new chapter for the telecommunications giant, signalling continued growth and innovation in the sector. Brelotte BA will succeed Sékou DRAME, whose term ends on July 31.
Brelotte BA’s appointment brings deep industry expertise
Brelotte BA brings 24 years of extensive experience in telecommunications to Sonatel. Most recently, since 2022, he served as Deputy Managing Director at Orange Middle East Africa, overseeing operations in 18 subsidiaries with services reaching over 163 million customers.
His career has been shaped mainly within the Sonatel Group, where he held key roles across several countries, including General Manager positions at Orange Mali, Orange Niger, Orange Guinea, and Orange Bissau.
His professional journey within Sonatel saw him take on responsibilities such as Management Controller, Director of Commercial Marketing, and Director of Operators and International Relations. Brelotte BA is an engineer graduate from the prestigious Ecole Polytechnique and Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées in Paris.
The Sonatel Board expressed confidence in his ability to maintain the company’s leadership in telecommunications and digital transformation across Africa.
New CEO to focus on digital transformation and expansion
Since taking up his post, Brelotte BA is expected to drive the company’s digital economy initiatives forward. Under his leadership in Mali, Orange achieved over 90% 4G coverage and launched fiber networks offering FTTH (Fiber to the Home).
He also spearheaded digital projects to improve customer experiences on platforms like Orange Money and diversified service offerings.
The Board thanked outgoing CEO Sékou DRAME for his commitment since 2018 and acknowledged his contributions to Sonatel’s development. Brelotte BA’s appointment is seen as a strategic move to continue accelerating infrastructure deployment and digital innovation in the region.
Starting August 1, Brelotte BA will lead Sonatel at a time when telecommunications and digital services are crucial for economic growth and connectivity in Africa.
