Sony reduces the size of Xperia 5 IV

Sony has added a new and more portable (but still powerful) device to its Xperia line-up.

Sony says that the Xperia 5 IV will have many of the same “luxury features” as other Xperia phones but will be smaller. Yang Cheng, vice president of imaging solutions at Sony Electronics, says that the Xperia 5 IV is a powerful and small tool that is good for anyone who wants the best technology in a small, sleek package.

Compared to a device like the Xperia 1 IV, which has dimensions of 6.5 x 2.8 x 0.3 inches, it appears smaller at 6.1 x 2.6 x 0.3 inches. The Xperia 5 IV weighs only 172 grams, or slightly more than 6 ounces—about an ounce less than an iPhone 13 Pro—which is a good thing considering it is a portable electronic device. It preserves a 6.1-inch FHD display throughout.

Sony says that this screen has “all the speed, performance, and reliability needed for the highest level of mobile gaming,” and it can handle 120Hz with 240Hz motion blur reduction. The screen is touch scanning, it operates at 204Hz for more precise input and movements with little lag.

Sony is excited about more than just the size, weight, and screen of the Xperia 5 IV. The three rear-facing lenses on the new phone can all record at 4K HDR and up to 120 fps thanks to some of the company’s most recent camera innovations. Additionally, the front-facing camera uses 4K HDR as well.

The Xperia 5 IV will be available starting at the end of October for $999.99 in both black (unlocked) and green (exclusive to Sony.com), with preorders readily available in the United States of America.
