Sony has introduced PlayStation Family, a daring new parental controls program that gives parents complete control over their kids’ mobile gaming. With its features surpassing existing consoles’ limitations, the app, which will be available on iOS and Android starting in September 2025, offers real-time monitoring and control over spending and gaming habits.

Manage your child’s playtime with ease

With real-time notifications, the PlayStation Family app allows parents to see precisely what games their kids are playing at any given time. In addition to receiving comprehensive activity reports that include gaming hours and preferred titles, parents may establish daily playtime limitations for each day of the week.

Parents can remotely accept or deny requests for additional playing time from their children to ensure flexible but restricted gaming. Shifting management to mobile devices expands Sony’s current console parental controls and allows parents to keep a closer eye on their children without physically being near the console.

Control spending and content for safer gaming

Beyond playtime, the app introduces spending management features where parents can add funds to their child’s wallet, set monthly purchase limits, and monitor transactions on the PlayStation Store. Content filters offer age-based settings that may be customised to suit each family member’s tastes with a single tap. Parents can restrict who their children interact with or what social features they can access by adjusting privacy and social interaction settings.
