Bolt South Africa announced on Monday that it has partnered with Driver Technologies to offer its driver partners a dash cam solution that uses smartphones to improve driver safety.

This program lets drivers transform their smartphones into high-quality dash cams with dual-cam picture-in-picture mode, unlimited HD video recording, and automated position and motion data capture, even if they forget to record.

Bolt drivers receive free premium access to the app for the first month, with a subsequent monthly fee of R55 ($2.90), discounted by 75 percent. Driver Technologies also provides IT support, data handling, and processing assistance to ensure a smooth experience for drivers.

Drivers often struggle to acquire standalone dash cams, but the Bolt app offers a cheaper and more accessible alternative.

Discounted dash cams now available for bolt SA drivers

Bolt’s partnership with Driver Technologies complements its safety features, such as rider verification, pick-up codes, and trusted contacts.

According to Lerato Motsoeneng, Senior General Manager for Bolt South Africa, “Driver partners regularly tell us that a dash cam can provide them with additional security and peace of mind.

However, buying a device that meets their requirements can be expensive, with drivers citing the cost as the main obstacle to getting one.

By providing discounted access to premium dashcam functionality, our partnership with Driver Technologies ensures they can access the tools they need to create safer environments for themselves and their passengers”.

The dash cam footage can support drivers in various situations, including interactions with law enforcement, customer disputes, and insurance claims, by capturing interior and exterior views of the vehicle.

Marcus Newbury, co-founder and COO at Driver Technologies, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are delighted to have partnered with Bolt to help driver partners and passengers feel more secure with a reliable dash cam product that meets their requirements at a discounted rate”.

Bolt aims to improve road safety by using technology to offer affordable and effective safety aids to South African drivers.
