Instagram announced on Monday a new feature allowing users to share Spotify songs with playable audio directly in their Stories.

This update transforms how music is shared on Instagram by enabling followers to listen to song previews without leaving the app.

How Instagram’s Spotify song sharing works

Previously, sharing a Spotify track to Instagram Stories only showed the album art and a link, requiring viewers to open Spotify separately to hear the song.

When a user shares a song from Spotify, Instagram automatically embeds a short audio preview within the Story.

This makes music discovery more immediate and interactive for followers.

To share a Spotify song with sound, users simply open Spotify on their smartphone, select the song or podcast, tap the share icon on the now-playing screen, and choose “Instagram Stories.”

Instagram then creates a new Story featuring the album art and an audio snippet, which users can customise with stickers, text, or GIFs before posting.

Instagram’s growing music integration strategy

This feature builds on Instagram’s recent integration of Spotify into Instagram Notes, introduced earlier in June 2025, where users could share their current Spotify tracks as real-time statuses in their Notes section.

This allows friends to see and listen to what someone is playing without leaving Instagram.

Meta, Instagram’s parent company, highlighted that these music-sharing updates aim to reduce friction between platforms and keep users engaged within Instagram’s ecosystem.

The move also positions Instagram as a stronger competitor against TikTok, which has dominated music-driven social media trends by popularising songs through viral videos.

Alongside music features, Instagram announced new fonts for Stories and Reels, including a limited-time font inspired by singer Rosalía’s handwriting, enhancing creative expression on the platform.

Instagram’s new Spotify song sharing with sound is rolling out globally and will appear for users in the coming weeks. It promises a richer, more seamless music experience on the social media giant.
