Stanbic Bank Tanzania and Vodacom Tanzania Plc have committed TZS 300 million over three years to restore the fragile ecosystem of Mount Kilimanjaro, a key focus of the Twende Butiama Cycling Tour, a national initiative that combines environmental action with social impact and sport.

Marking Vodacom’s 30 years of service in Tanzania, this partnership dedicates TZS 100 million annually to support tree planting efforts aimed at revitalising Kilimanjaro’s unique ecosystem.

What Twende Butiama cycling tour intends to achieve

Enhancing learning environments, providing medical outreach services in rural areas, and restoring Mount Kilimanjaro’s ecosystem through tree planting initiatives are just a few of the interventions that the Twende Butiama cycling tour supports while honouring the legacy of Mwalimu Julius Nyerere.

Through this partnership, it hopes to improve the lives of over 700,000 Tanzanians, reach 30 schools, plant 50,000 trees, and provide financial literacy training to communities near resting places.

Gabriel Landa, representing the Twende Butiama Cycling Initiative; Philip BESIIMIRE, Managing Director of Vodacom Tanzania; and Manzi Rwegasira, Chief Executive of Stanbic Bank Tanzania, formally signed the funding agreement Thursday in Dar es Salaam.

“At Stanbic Bank Tanzania, we believe that Tanzania is our home and we are here to drive her growth, not just through banking, but by investing in the people and values that define us,” Stanbic Bank stated.

Vodacom Tanzania noted, “As we always say, this is more than a ride! It’s a movement rooted in legacy, community, and impact. Together, we’re accelerating progress toward a more inclusive, sustainable, and connected Africa. Because when purpose meets partnership, Africa grows stronger.”

The Twende Butiama Cycling Tour is a nationwide cycling event that promotes environmental action, health, and education throughout Tanzania.
