As a result of a number of different financial challenges, the Ghanaian 4G LTE company Surfline Communications has been forced to shut down its data centre as well as its radio access network (RAN).

The National Communications Authority (NCA) of Ghana has revealed to the Daily Graphic that the corporation is experiencing significant problems with its costs.

Joe Anokye, director general of the NCA, commented as follows: “Surfline informed us in a letter that they closed their data centre. Before that, they had notified us that they would be discontinuing their radio access network due to financial considerations.

Anokye described it as a major liquidity issue,’ in which the company was having difficulty with some of its vendors. Apparently, the NCA is presently working on a public release to explain the concerns confronting Surfline. However, the NCA is apparently currently working on a press release to explain the challenges facing Surfline.

What Surfline has been through

Total network disruption was suffered by Surfline as a result of the shutdown of both its data centre and its RAN. In a post that was published on the website of the company, Surfline stated as follows: “Please be assured that Surfline management is working extremely hard with all stakeholders to fix the situation.

Once the network is back up and running, it goes without saying that the amount of time that your data bundle is valid for will be increased correspondingly. In addition to this, Surfline will work to guarantee that you, as one of our most valued customers, are paid for the trouble that this causes you.

According to the NCA, as of the end of the previous year, Surfline had 35,796 subscriptions for Broadband Wireless Access, which corresponds to approximately a 25.4 percent share of the fixed broadband market in Ghana. 2011 marked the beginning of operations for the company. RocketReach estimates that the amount of income generated by Surfline in 2021 was $90 million.

Additionally, in Ghana, MTN Group made an announcement in February of this year that it planned to invest one billion dollars on the launch of 5G for the country. In April of this year, Lynk struck a satellite arrangement with Vodafone Ghana that would enhance the company’s mobile network coverage.
