Tareq Muhmood has been appointed as Visa‘s new Regional President for Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (CEMEA), effective Wednesday.
This move places Muhmood at the helm of Visa’s operations across more than 86 markets, including Ukraine, overseeing a vast network of over 1,800 customers served by 23 local offices.
Leadership shift in Visa’s CEMEA region
Tareq Muhmood brings over 30 years of experience in banking and payments to his new role. Before this appointment, he led Value-Added Services from London to Visa’s European region.
Muhmood joined Visa in 2019 as regional manager for Southeast Asia, based in Singapore. His career includes senior positions at Ahli United Bank, ANZ, and HSBC. Based in Dubai, he will report directly to Oliver Jenkyn, Visa’s regional president for global markets.
Muhmood succeeds Andrew Torre, who recently became president of Visa’s Value-Added Services division. This division has grown into a $9 billion global business, with forecasted annual revenue growth of 20 percent since 2021.
Impact on Visa’s regional strategy
With Muhmood’s appointment, Visa aims to strengthen its presence and innovation in the CEMEA region. The area is critical for Visa’s growth, encompassing diverse markets with increasing adoption of digital payment.
Visa’s ongoing initiatives include expanding stablecoin projects and enhancing payment security, which align with Muhmood’s expertise in value-added services and regional management.
This leadership change comes as Visa continues to adapt to evolving payment technologies and regional economic dynamics. Muhmood’s deep industry knowledge and regional experience position him to drive Visa’s strategic goals across CEMEA, supporting the company’s mission to empower communities and businesses through advanced payment solutions.
